Manuscript Wish Lists

Deidre Knight

I'd love some really sharp, intelligent pop culture non-fiction. Contemporary cultural takes, too, with humor and a great voice. I’m also looking for narrative, humor, cooking/food, diet, health, self-help, personal improvement, investment, business, and memoir (including business memoir).

In fiction, I’m hungry to find a very voice-driven novel. I love coming-of-age themes, also grieving/moving on, workplace romance (but bigger women’s fiction, not genre romance.) Quirky characters like in The Hating Game or Where’d You Go, Bernadette. Emotionally compelling novels (think Me Before You). A really authentic Southern novel, with strong voice. Think Pat Conroy or Anne River Siddons. A story of a toxic, yet compulsive friendship like Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. And always—a boarding school/prep school novel that’s a true standout, because I’ve never fully recovered from The Westminster Schools!

Elaine Spencer

Tis the Season! I would love to see a holiday-centered contemporary romance or women’s fiction project. Entering the new year, I’m also eager to find some lighthearted humorous contemporary fiction—heroes and heroines who love to hate each other. Characters with real conflict, who have no choice but to duke it out every day.

Pamela Harty

I am always on the lookout for something new and fresh in both romance and women’s fiction, particularly stories centered around family or set in the South.  I would love to see more cozy mystery submissions as well. On the nonfiction front, I am interested in pop culture, health and wellness, diet, and cookbooks. Platform needs to be established for nonfiction.  I always have an opening on my client list for the next Something Special, and sometimes I don’t know what it is until I see it!

Lucienne Diver

I hate to say that I’ll know it when I see it, but it’s so often the case that I’m not even in the market for the next thing I fall for. In fact, I might say I’m not hungry for super-hero fantasy and then, BOOM, a book like ALL THOSE EXPLOSIONS WERE SOMEONE ELSE’S FAULT by James Alan Gardner comes along and I have to represent it. So I’ll just say that if you’ve got a wonderful voice and a unique twist on anything, I’m up for considering it.

Melissa Jeglinski

Historical Fiction—would love something set around the Industrial Revolution. Cozy Mystery: house flippers or interior-design concepts. Always on the lookout for diverse Middle Grade—love ghosts/ghost hunters, STEM, and adventure. Dark Women’s Fiction. Thrillers.

Travis Pennington

I’m always looking for high-concept stories in every genre. I would love to find a couple of thrillers with female protagonists. I’m still looking for something very original in horror. I’m particularly interested in horror set in unique locations, written by authors who have spent time in those areas and have some understanding of local superstitions or dark legends. Horror is always a tough sell, though, so it would have to be great. But I’m open to it!
