There is no one way to write a novel. The best thing authors can do for themselves is find a way that works for them. Because writing isn't always fun, and it doesn't always flow easily.  Sometimes you just have to treat it like the job it is, or the job you'd like it to be, and write regardless of your mood/feelings. Consider it practice for deadlines!  

I prefer to write a story from start to finish, but some of my best author friends write out of order, crafting whatever scene is speaking to them. Don’t be afraid to try different methods.  Plot something, then write it. Don’t plot anything, just sit down and write. Keep tweaking until you find your method. And don’t forget you can always RE-write.
