AUTHOR TIP OF THE MONTH

USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author Avery Flynn has three slightly wild children, loves a hockey-addicted husband, and is desperately hoping someone invents the coffee-IV drip. She lives outside of Washington, D.C., with her family. HEXY BEAST is her latest novel.

Avery's Tip:

There is a great audio clip of a woman saying that she’s “once again shocked and bewildered to find that the trial and error involves error.”

It’s funny.

It’s relatable.

And, unfortunately for every author I’ve ever met, it applies to the process of writing books. There will always be a point of view that needs to be changed, a plot twist that doesn’t work, a sagging middle that’s just missing…something. What is that something? Who knows? You have to mess it up to figure it out.

Writing a book is all about trying and failing. No book comes out perfect the first time. You refigure on the fly, you rewrite in edits, your reread and reread and reread until time runs out and it’s time to turn it in. It’s the worst and best part about writing. No matter how you write your book, you’re gonna mess it up—and you’re supposed to. That’s how you figure it all out. And you will. You just have to muck it all up first.

The previously quiet life of Cordelia Levine, half-werewolf, all witch, has been turned upside down. Both of her parents are now dead, and her grandmother’s vicious attack on Trevelyan, her pack’s home, has left the Albion Pack fleeing and severely reduced in number.

As they recover and strategize a path forward, Cordelia is navigating her role in the pack as well as her feelings for her new husband, the Alpha. But even as their love grows stronger, the fate of the pack lies in their hands, and they must focus on finding a way to survive.

The pack decides that the only way to defeat the cabal and forge a path back home is to rekindle old alliances. The journey proves complicated, however, as each Alpha they encounter has an agenda of his own. But Cordelia and Bishop will stop at nothing to protect their pack – and reclaim their rightful home.

An impulsive witch and a buttoned-up werewolf discover love is its own beast in this spicy rom-com from USA Today bestselling author Avery Flynn.

As the eldest daughter of the magical Sherwood family, I'm supposed to have everything together. Well, joke's on them—I, Effie Sherwood, am chaos incarnate, and you'll never be able to guess my next move. Like jumping on the back of Darius Aetos' motorcycle. Not only is Darius grumpy, gruff, and hot, he's also the head of the Aetos werewolf pack. My spur of the moment decision has quickly become a much bigger commitment, because a pack elder is convinced this hunk of a man (or wolf, depending on the hour) is my fated mate. Even though I'm a witch and he's a werewolf, we're stuck together until we can find our way out of the tricky pack politics. But under the light of the blue moon, it's almost starting to feel like Darius doesn't want to stay away from me. And I'm not sure if it's my magic going haywire or the starlit skies, but I can't imagine leaving his arms either.
